Thompson is a proud guy, and that pride served him incredibly well this year. At least! The demotion won’t be a smooth one. Thompson has been through hell and back and single-handedly saved this dynasty from certain doom at least once. The dude is a hero, and Kerr’s been reluctant to mess with his heroes. Luckily, he’s tailor-made for the role of depraved gunner off the bench, but that’s a conversation Kerr will have to handle delicately. His time as a reliable second scoring option is likely over, and that is probably obvious to everyone but Thompson. Klay Thompson, bless him, gave the Warriors almost nothing against the Lakers - and even less the higher the stakes ratcheted up. His closest comrades, on the other hand, are showing signs of, if not rust exactly, wear and tear. Fortunately, even as an ancient human, aged 35 entire years, Curry is as formidable and terrifying as ever.
